“Side” Items

As I drove thru Wendy’s the other day I noticed they were introducing three new side items; chili cheese fries, macaroni and cheese and a baked sweet potato. All three made me drool a bit. Cheese and carbs, yum yum!

I decided to look up the nutritional values of these new side items.

The fries topped in at 570 calories! That’s not a side dish, that’s a meal. And a big one at that!

Let’s look at the baked sweet potato. 380 calories, 9 grams of fat, 69 grams of carbohydrates, 10 grams of fiber and 6 grams of protein. Now yes, sweet potatoes aren’t the best vegetable for you, but where’s the fat coming from?!

The butter! The cinnamon butter. 120 calories, 9 grams of fat and 11 grams of carbohydrates. And that’s if they put the “portion” on it that they did when being counting the nutritional value.

Long story short? A baked sweet potato, not too bad. With a side of portion grilled chicken and a very green salad; definitely. Just skip the butter. That’s easy enough.

Yum!

I finally was able to satisfy my Fage craving, adding in some reduced fat Wheat Thins and a handful of dried cranberries it’s become one of my favorite meals. And at about 260 calories there’s so much to love. I had this with a mint tea for breakfast.

I debated lunch. Either Jason’s Deli for soup and hummus or Wendy’s for their Apple Pecan Salad. Since I had a work training at 1 I went for Wendy’s. I love that salad. It’s so convenient, fresh, yummy and at about 400 calories is a great fast choice.

Last week recap

My birthday was Monday so last week I took a trip to my favorite place in the world. NYC! Ahhhh! It felt good. Before I left I made the decision to eat whatever I wanted and to just have a good time. If I didn’t lose weight this week it would be fine, as long as I didn’t gain. I packed some workout gear with the intensions of meeting up with some BLR friends and taking at least one run in Central Park. Five days later, I had shoved three cheesecake slices and some other heavenly dessert down my throat and my sneakers were still in my suitcase. I dreaded stepping on the scale this morning, thoroughly convinced that I might see a +4 lbs. I was shocked. I stepped off and let the scale reset then stepped on again. It seemed like I had a birthday miracle! I had lost three pounds. That’s the most I’ve lost in a week since my second BLR trip.

So now I’m excited and ready to start working out and running again. Josh and I are starting P90X tonight and I’ll admit it, I’m scared. Like really scared. So if you don’t see posts from me for a few days please send help.

What kind of post do you enjoy the most?

After I weighed in this morning

I was a little bummed.  It was the first time since January that I didn’t lose weight.  (I weigh in once a week)

So I decided to look back and see what progress I’ve made in the first quarter of the year.  From January to March 11th I lost 17.7 pounds, a total of 5.75 inches, 3.5% body fat and my BMI went down by 2.4.  I’ll wait until June to measure and have my body fat checked, but if I can keep on the same track I’ll be more than happy.  Even though I didn’t lose weight last week I still have lost 23lbs since the beginning of the year and am definitely healthier than I’ve been in a LONG time.  So I’m happy.
